Procedure Guide > FOR R-134a SYSTEMS & RETROFITTING

PROPER USE OF SSR-134a KITS
AND
RETROFITTING FROM R-12 TO R-134a

PROFESSIONAL USE ONLY BY EXPERIENCED, CERTIFIED ASE, 609-MVAC/MACS TRAINED PERSONNEL.

WE RECOMMEND OUR SSR PRODUCT BE INSTALLED IN A CLEAN SYSTEM THAT ONLY R-134A REFRIGERANT HAS BEEN ADDED. OUR SSR PRODUCTS CANNOT BE INSTALLED OR MIXED WITH "OTHER" SEALANT AND DEHYDRANT PRODUCTS.

ALWAYS WEAR SAFETY GOGGLES WHEN WORKING WITH REFRIGERANTS.

DO NOT INHALE VAPORS. AVOID CONTACT WITH SKIN AND EYES

NOTE:
SSR R-134a Kit will seal leaks in systems of up to 4 lbs. refrigerant charge. Larger systems will require an additional kit for each 4 lbs. of refrigerant charge. (When charging larger than a 4 lb system, add cans of Tune-Air® sequentially before adding cans of Cryoseal® sealant to system).
The SSR R-134a Kit contains TWO 4 oz. cans. 1 can Cryoseal® (sealant), 1 can Tune-Air® (dehydrant).

NOTE: SSR KITS WILL NOT SEAL COMPRESSOR SHAFT SEAL LEAKS. Carefully check shaft seal for leaks and replace if any leakage is found before using SSR R-134a Kit. Also check compressor for proper operation.
LOSS OF LUBE OIL THRU LEAKAGE MAY HAVE CAUSED COMPRESSOR AND/OR SHAFT-SEAL DAMAGE.

DIRECTIONS

1.  If A/C system has lost its entire charge, inspect system for obvious leaks

or ruptures. With engine and A/C off, depressurize air conditioning  system into recovery unit.

2. Replace drier/accumulator (XH-9 TYPE) and replace schrader valves,     Expansion Tube OR "H" valve. (in dual systems both front and back must be replaced, i.e. Vans, Buses,RV's).

3.  Evacuate A/C system for 5 minutes only to remove air. NOTE: If you cannot reach 29" vacuum within 5 minutes, and hold above 25" for 5 minutes the hole is too large to seal.

4.  ADD APPROPRIATE AMOUNT OF OIL to compensate for leakage (2-4 ounces) NOTE: If you are retrofitting an R-12 system to R-134a, then add 6-8 oz. of PAG or POE lubricant to the system.

5.

    A. Add appropriate amount of R-134a refrigerant to system. NOTE: Full charge, less 8 ounces for kit charge. If retrofitting from R-12 to R-134a use only 85% of R-12 capacity for the R-134a total charge, less 8 ounces for kit charge, also apply R-134a label and fittings.

    B. With A/C system revving at approximately 1500 RPM, slowly add the 4 oz. can of Tune-Air® (#1 can) to LOW side in LIQUID state. (For systems larger than 4 lbs. add an additional can of Tune-Air® for each 4 lb. capacity). Add Tune-Air® SLOWLY by rotating can up and down to avoid slugging the compressor. Allow system to run for 20 minutes before adding Cryoseal® sealant.

    C. With A/C system running, slowly top off with the 4 oz. can of Cryoseal® (#2 can) in LIQUID state to LOW side of system. ( For a system larger than 4 pounds, add an additional can of Cryoseal® for each 4 lb. capacity.) Allow A/C system to run in order to circulate SSR to seal all leaks. NOTE: In the event the refrigerant in this system is recycled, the Cryoseal® will separate out with the oil during recycling, therefore a new SSR R-134a Kit should be added to the system to protect against moisture and future leaks.
